Like most people, you have probably heard about CBD oil and its benefits, but you may not know how to make it yourself. We will also discuss the benefits of CBD oil and why you should consider adding it to your daily routine. Keep reading to learn more!

What is Cannabis-Infused Oil (CBD or THC)?

Cannabis oil is made by heating the cannabis flowers with light heat and thereby infused with cannabis oil. Cannabinoid-based products such as CBD and THC are hydrophobic. They dislike water so much that water molecules repel them.

However, THC, CBD and other cannabinoids are fat-soluble. It is advisable to use a fatty molecule like that of oil to attach to it. Using cannabis oil, the THC and CBD molecules leave the flower and plant material to form an independent oil-like substance. Cannabis oil contains many different types and ingredients. Coconut oil and olive oil are the most widely used.

Why Make Cannabis Oil?

different types of cbd oil

There are many different reasons people choose to make cannabis oil at home. Cannabis oil is ideal because it can be very potent, meaning that a small amount can go a long way. For people that want a discreet and efficient way to medicate, CBD Tinctures are one of the best options. Basically CBD Tinctures are Cannabis infused oil, and it is the same for THC Tinctures.

One of the most popular uses for cannabis oil is to create medicated edibles such as gummies, chocolates, brownies or cookies. It is also easy to measure precise doses, which is important when making edibles. In addition, cannabis oil can make topical products such as lotions and salves. These products can be applied directly to the skin to relieve conditions such as pain, inflammation, and anxiety.

Some other persons incorporate cannabis oil into their day-to-day skincare routine. For one, the powerful antioxidant properties of cannabis oil can help fight off signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles and soothe redness and irritation caused by acne or other conditions.

Using Decarboxylated Cannabis for Oil

Cannabinoids found in raw cannabis like THC and CBD are not activated. In fact, both cannabinoids need to be heated in order to get the medicinal and recreational benefits from it. It is called decarboxylation, it is a chemical reaction that occurs when cannabis is heated. The drug is psychoactive, which is likewise beneficial in the medical application of the product. However, heating cannabis should be done low, slow, and methodical. Raw THCA and CBDA is then converted to active THC / CBD.

Choose between Hemp oil, CBD oil, THC oil

You choose! You can make hemp and marijuana oil by choosing the legal and safe option available in your country. And what your desired outcomes would be. Hemp oil contains mostly CBD (though there is still a tiny dose of THC), whereas marijuana-infused oil contains CBD as well as THC.

THC / CBD content varies by strain and the plants from which they originate, if you want to make your own CBD Oil we suggest that you go for the Famous CBD Strains:

  • ACDC
  • Charlotte’s Web
  • Harlequin

However, THC is more than just calming our minds! THC can help to reduce the symptoms of insomnia, epilepsy and inflammation more than CBD. Each Cannabinoid has its distinct benefits, so it can be a good option if you make your own cannabis-infused oil that contains both of them. It will allow you to get benefits from both world!

How to Make Cannabis Oil? Basic Ingredients and Steps!

decarb weed flowers

If you are interested in making your cannabis oil, the following guide will walk you through all of the steps needed to make high-quality cannabis oil infused with THC or CBD.

Ingredients Needed

  • 7 Grams of Grounded-Carboxylated Cannabis: A lower amount will produce a less potent oil while more will produce a more potent oil.
  • 1 Cup of Your Chosen Carrier Oil: This can be any oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, or hempseed oil.
  • A Grinder: This is needed to grind up your cannabis into small pieces.
  • A Cheesecloth or Fine-Mesh Strainer is needed to strain your finished oil.
  • A Couple of Glass Mason Jars: This is needed to infuse and store your finished oil.
  • A Spoon: This is needed to stir your cannabis and carrier oil together.

Instruction To Make Cannabis Oil

Step 1: Decarboxylate Your Cannabis: The first step is to decarboxylate or activate your cannabis. This can be done by heating it in an oven at 220-250 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes to an hour. Once finished, allow the cannabis to cool before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Combine Cannabis and Carrier Oil: Next, you must combine your decarboxylated cannabis with your chosen carrier oil. You will need 1-2 cups of carrier oil for every 6-9 grams of cannabis for this recipe. Once combined, stir the mixture well and be sure to break up any clumps of cannabis that may have formed.

Step 3: Heat the Mixture: Now it’s time to heat the mixture. This can be done on a stovetop over low heat or in a crockpot set to “warm.” Using a stovetop, it is important to set up a double boiler to prevent the mixture from scorching. Heat the mixture until it reaches between 140-180 degrees Fahrenheit and maintains this temperature for an hour minimum, stirring the mixture occasionally.

Step 4: Line A Strainer With Cheesecloth: Once the infusion process is complete, it’s time to strain the mixture. To do this, line a strainer with cheesecloth and place it over a dark glass jar.

Step 5: Pour Mixture Into Strainer: Now, pour the mixture into the strainer and allow it to drip into the jar below. Be sure to squeeze the cheesecloth to extract all of the liquid from your cannabis.

Step 6: Store and Use Your Cannabis Oil: Once all of the liquid has dripped through, you can seal your jar of cannabis oil and store it in a cool, dark place for use as needed.

With these steps, you can easily make your high-quality cannabis oil infused with THC or CBD. Whether you are looking to improve your health, treat a medical condition, or relax after a long day, this powerful oil will help you do it all!

Expert Tips Before Making Cannabis Oil

Before making cannabis oil, it is important to take certain precautions to ensure safety and effectiveness.

  1. One crucial tip is to keep the temperature below 200 degrees Fahrenheit, as overheating can destroy the active compounds in cannabis and result in a less potent product.
  2. Another essential step is to monitor the oil mixture with a probe thermometer throughout the infusion process. This will allow you to make any necessary adjustments in real-time and prevent overheating or undercooking.
  3. Additionally, it is best to keep the oil in a dark environment, as exposure to sunlight or other bright lights can alter its chemical composition
  4. You can use your oil for 6 to 12 months. After that, the oil will not turn bad but the potency might decrease over time.

How to Use Cannabis Oil?

Cannabis oil is one of the most versatile cannabis products you can get. From it, there are literally infinite options when it comes to consuming it. There are many ways to use cannabis oil, depending on your needs and preferences, here are some of the most popular ways:

  • One popular method is to take it orally by mouth: This can be done by taking one spoonful at a time and holding it in your mouth for 60-90 seconds before swallowing. This is also called sublingual, it offers a faster onset that edibles but also a shorter duration and a lower intensity than your favourite THC/CBD Gummies
  • Use in Meals and Edibles: Cannabis oil can be used in cooking and baking, such as brownies and chocolate or incorporated into other products such as gummies. In order to preserve the cannabinoid content as well as the terpenes you should cook at low heat and as fast as possible. You could also simply use your oil for Pasta or on a toast with jam. You just need to be cautious with the dosage especially with THC products. More on that below.
  • Add a teaspoon to your beverage such as hot chocolate or coffee
  • You can also use cannabis oil topically by applying it directly to the skin for pain relief or as part of a beauty treatment.

This allows you to enjoy the benefits of cannabis without having to smoke it.

Homemade Cannabis Oil Potency: Proceed with Caution

Note that the potency of cannabis oil can change dramatically depending on many factors, including time and temp. It is almost impossible to determine the exact amount that you are consuming since there’s no way for people who make their own oil or edibles (without lab testing) to know how much THC or CBD was used during production.

The best way to take THC or CBD Oil is by starting out with very small amounts (particularly those containing THC). It is known as “micro-dosings”. Try 1/4 teaspoon on the low end, then scale up next time if needed but wait at least 2 hours before taking more edibles or oil! Remember that it can take up 4–6 hrs for your body’s natural cannabinoids system to reset – so don’t exceed this amount unless really wanted.

As a general rule of thumb, 1 gram of good-quality cannabis flower will yield about 150-200mg of THC (15-20% THC). This means that 7 grams of cannabis will yield about 10,500-14,000mg of THC. The recommended dosage for THC edibles and oil, is 10mg for beginners. if you are not sure about the dosage you should take please read our related article.

However, it is important to keep in mind that the THC content can vary depending on the quality of the cannabis you use. For example, some strains may be more potent than others. Similarly, the CBD content can also vary depending on the strain of cannabis but don’t worry too much about CBD oil because you won’t get high and the risk of overconsuming it are close to nothing.

The Differences Between Cannabis Edibles, Smoking, and Vaping

cannabis gummies with leaf of marijuana

Cannabis is frequently consumed in the form of edibles, whether they are homemade or bought from a store. This allows you to ingest the plant’s cannabinoids without inhaling any smoke or vapour, making it easier for some people to manage their symptoms.

However, there can be significant differences between using cannabis as an edible and vapour or smoke. When consumed as an edible, the effects of cannabis will take longer to set in and may last longer than when inhaled. This is because cannabinoids have different absorption rates by the body depending on how they are consumed. Edibles are a great option when it comes to medication, no need to smoke every hours or two, simply take a gummy and enjoy its effect for the next 2-4 hours.

The rate at which a cannabinoid enters your bloodstream determines its onset time, with inhalation having the fastest onset, followed by sublingual/buccal absorption, topical application, and finally, ingestion. Cannabis edibles also tend to have a stronger effect than smoking or vaporizing cannabis because they are absorbed into the bloodstream through the digestive system. This means that more of the plant’s cannabinoids are available for your body to use.

Alternatives to making DIY Cannabis Infused-oil

While cannabis oil is said to have many benefits, from pain relief to reducing anxiety, one of the main drawbacks is that it can be difficult to get an accurate dosage. This is because the THC content in cannabis oil can vary significantly. For example, if a person makes cannabis oil at home, it is almost impossible to know how much THC is in each batch. As a result, they could end up taking too much or too little, which could lead to adverse effects.

If you are not comfortable making your cannabis oil, other options are available. You can buy cannabis oil from an online dispensary, they will provide you with an accurate dosage THC and CBD oil. On top of that you will save plenty of time as you don’t have to decarb your weed, infuse your oil.

At BC Weed Edible we have a wide variety of THC and CBD Oils available at different potency. It will allow you to bake & cook your edibles really fast. Here are some alternatives you can use for your edibles:

  • CBD Tinctures: 500mg, 1000mg, 1500mg, 2000mg
  • THC Tinctures: 1000mg
  • CBD Isolate (THC free)
  • THC Distillate (+90% THC)

Frequently Asked Questions

CBD oil is becoming increasingly popular as a natural remedy for a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, pain, inflammation, and even cancer. But what exactly is CBD oil, and what are its potential health benefits?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, a compound found naturally in hemp plants. Unlike THC, the other well-known cannabinoid, CBD does not produce a high or intoxication. Instead, it offers many potential health benefits.

Recent studies have shown that CBD may be effective in treating various forms of anxiety, including social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and even post-traumatic stress disorder. It can also help to reduce nausea and vomiting, making it a useful treatment for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. CBD has also been shown to be an effective pain reliever, whether applied topically or taken orally. In addition, it appears to be an effective anti-inflammatory agent, which may be beneficial for treating conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. Finally, CBD has also been shown to be an effective anti-seizure medication in both children and adults.

While more research is needed to confirm these potential health benefits, CBD oil shows promise as a natural remedy for a wide range of conditions such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn's disease.

CBD oil is also proven in providing anti-inflammatory effects and also provides the anti-oxidants you need. This is why it is a good choice for those who are suffering from chronic inflammation.

THC-Oil is known for its wide array of benefits, many of which are still being researched.

Some benefits that have been proven, however, include its ability to reduce nausea, reduce pain, and act as a great anti-depressant.

It also protects your nervous system, relives Crohn's disease, provides anti-inflammatory treatment, and also provides a number of anti-oxidants to help with certain conditions. Because of its wide range of potential benefits, THC-Oil is becoming increasingly popular in both the medical and recreational communities.

Whether you are looking for an alternative treatment for a medical condition or simply want to improve your overall wellness, THC-Oil may be worth considering.

One of the most common questions people have about cannabis-infused oil is: how much does it cost? The price of cannabis-infused oil varies depending on the concentration of THC or CBD.

For example, a 30mL bottle of oil with a 1000mg THC concentration starts at $49, while a 30mL bottle with a 1000mg CBD concentration may be priced at $49.

The price also varies depending on the size of the bottle. So, if you're looking to purchase cannabis-infused oil, be sure to compare prices and concentrations before making your final decision.

  • 1 Crockpot or Double Boiler if you don't have a crock pot you can use your kitchen sauce pan and a glass bowl or stainless steel
  • 1 A Cheesecloth or Fine-Mesh Strainer is needed to strain your finished oil.
  • 1 Thermometer it is not required but advised especially if you use the sauce pan
  • 2 Mason Jar or any other type of Storage container
  • 1 Baking sheet or glass dish if you didn't decarb your weed before

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup of Your Chosen Carrier Oil: This can be any oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, or hempseed oil...
  • 7 Grams of ground decarboxylated dried cannabis flowers. Wich is known as a quarter of an ounce. This amount is a good start, don't go over it unless you know how it will affect you (especially if you choose to do the THC version of it). If not decarboxylated yet, check the first step below.

Instructions

  • Decarboxylate Your Cannabis (if not done yet): The first step is to decarboxylate or activate your cannabis. This can be done by heating it in an oven at 220-250 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes to an hour. Once finished, allow the cannabis to cool before moving on to the next step.
  • Add water to your crockpot. Once it is hot you can place your mason jar filled with 1 cup of coconut oil into it. Then wait until it fully melts
  • Combine Cannabis and Carrier Oil: Next, you must combine your decarboxylated cannabis with your chosen carrier oil. You will need 1 cup of carrier oil for every 7 grams of cannabis for this recipe. Once combined in the mason jar, stir the mixture well and be sure to break up any clumps of cannabis that may have formed. Don't forget to place the lid on it if you don't want your home to smell weed.
  • Keep heating the mixture until it reaches around 140-180 degrees Fahrenheit and maintains this temperature at least an hour, stirring the mixture occasionally. Make sure the oil stays below
  • Once the infusion process is done, carefully remove the lid, followed by the jars from the hot water. Set them aside to cool.
  • Line A Strainer With Cheesecloth: once the oil cool, it's time to strain the mixture. To do this, line a strainer with cheesecloth and place it over a mason jar. Gather the cheesecloth and gently squeeze out the excess oil from the cannabis.
  • Once the oil transferred into a glass storage container add the tight-fitting lid. Store the finished oil in a cool dark location.
  • Enjoy your CBD/THC infused oil for all your recipes, meal or edibles. In order to preserve the terpenes and cannabinoids you should cook with your oil with low heat and minimum cooking time.

Notes

Though it is nearly impossible to determine the potency of homemade edibles (without lab testing), no matter if you are using homegrown or dispensary cannabis. There can be many variables in play such as time and temp which could increase/decrease THC concentrations throughout processes leading up until consumption; always start out by micro-dosing with small amounts - 1/4 teaspoon at most!
Once you've figured out the ideal personal dose for your home-made oil, you may use math to figure out how much of it to intake.
If your sweet spot is 1/4 table spoon per person you simply have to multiply this amount by the number of servings. Then you only have to deduce the amount of cannabis oil you need from the "non-cannabis" oil you are supposed to add to your recipe.
Always keep out of reach from children and do not drive or operate machinery once you've eaten your homemade edibles.
